The visitors are a form of advanced artificial intelligence created by Solaris. AI is a type of automation that can learn to perform some task autonomously. In the movie, Hari shows that the visitors can improve and become more human over time. At first, Hari is dependent on Kalvin and must remain attached to him. She looks exactly like a human but does not act human yet. Like other AI, she improves at her task and becomes human over time through interacting with real humans and self discovers/actualization. In the end she decides to have herself destroyed as the last visitor.
