Stanislaw Lem and the Thought Process Behind Solaris

The movie Solaris was loosely based on a book of the same title. The author, Stanislaw Lem, is of Polish origin and has repeatedly stated his hatred of American science fiction as well as all movie adaptations of the book. While the movies focus on the human aspect of attempting to process the communication patterns of an alien source, the book highlighted a more philosophical perspective of an attempt to understand and communicate with something incomprehensible. Each book written by Lem is considered to be a "thought experiment," creating and entertaining ideas as the story progresses. In the case of Solaris, Lem experimented with the notion of possibilities, technology, thoughts, and ideas that humans simply cannot understand.
