Chapter 6

Chapter 6 of the textbook, Privacy and the Government, contains topics that are applicable to the movie. The professionals aboard the Solaris space station are employed by the Soviet government, and their research and personal information should be available to the government. However, the government has not taken advantage of their capabilities to mine data from the scientists, caused by the disbelief in Burton's report of the planet's sentience. The remaining scientists aboard the station have little communication with Earth, which is why Kelvin was initially sent to the planet. The scientists have been so successful in avoiding government interference that no one on Earth was even aware of the death of Dr. Gibarian.
